Structural inspections on gantry cranes at lofty heights - and with a view onto the river Rhine
Once again, qualified structural inspectors from IFF Engineering & Consulting GmbH were up in the air on a loading bridge in the port of Neuss at the west of the river Rhine. On behalf of the operator, the entire steel structure had to be inspected close-up for damage affecting the load-bearing capacity and fatigue-related damage, such as cracks in weld seams, deformations in sheet metal or loosened fasteners. Another focus was on any structural or occupational safety-related defects; corrosion protection also was examined carefully.
The abnormalities were documented in a detailed report and evaluated with regard to the necessary measures. This was done in close cooperation with a crane expert from our company.
With the knowledge gained in this way, the crane now can be specifically refurbished and toughened up to ensure sufficient operational safety for many years to come.
Such services have already been provided by the employees of IFF Engineering & Consulting GmbH for a large number of cranes and crane runways of all types.
